 New Year Blog Gems

I’m almost at the end of my Blog Gems series – and have to thank the lovely bloggers who have shared their 5 favourite posts of 2013 with me. It’s been a great way to catch up on so many good posts that I missed, and discover new blogs that I’m now following.

Just a couple more to go. The first is from Cass. Let me introduce her…..

Cass is a working mum of 2 who you can usually find over at The Diary of a Frugal Family.  She blogs about everything from family fun and adventures to money saving tips and foodie ideas with lots of cupcakes thrown in for good measure.  All she asked Santa for last Christmas was a few extra hours every day!

One of my favourite posts from 2013 is my 50 Ways to Save Money post.  I genuinely believe that most people reading the post could do at least one thing from the list and save themselves some money and that makes me happy because I like to help people save as much money as possible.

Another of my favourite posts is my letter to Katie Hopkins after she made some horrid remarks about ginger children.  I don’t usually use my blog to rant because I try and keep it quite a positive place but this time I just couldn’t help myself.

I enjoyed writing about our Bored Jar because we had so much fun with it over the Summer Holidays and lots of lovely people on my Facebook page made one too after seeing my post and some of their ideas were better than mine so we ended up adding ever more in to it.  We’re in the process of making a Christmas version too.

I love doing things as a family and they’re always my favourite posts to write.  This year we’ve been so lucky and we’ve done so much but surprisingly we all agree on our favourite day which was spent at Thorpe Park.  We loved Thorpe Park itself and had a great day there – lovely weather, none of the usual sibling arguments or parental stress and at the end of the day we relaxed in the bar with a glass of wine and a slice of chocolate cake while District 3 (from X Factor last year) played.  At the end of the performance we met them and my 11 year old got her photo took with them which quite possibly was and still is ‘the best thing to happen. Ever’.

globetrotters

My other favourite family thing this year was when we went to see the Harlem Globetrotters at Newcastle Arena and got to go backstage and meet the players. One of them took a real liking to my 8 year old (who’s Birthday treat it was) and paid lots of attention to him throughout the game.  The kids were part of pre-show entertainment and were on the court more than some of the players through the game.  It was such a great night that it makes me smile whenever I think about it.
